‘Massive’ landslide closes Highway 229 indefinitely near Siletz

A “massive” landslide between Kernville and Siletz has closed Highway 229 indefinitely, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

According to ODOT’s Tripcheck, a landslide was reported near milepost 14, 10 miles north of Siletz, that had “destroyed the road.”

“This will be a long-term closure, although we don’t know yet if that means days, weeks, months or longer,” ODOT spokesperson Mindy McCartt said.

The Oregon Coast experienced heavy rainfall as the Pacific Northwest was battered by atmospheric rivers. Lincoln City and surrounding areas received an estimated 2.16 inches of rainfall over the past seven days.
