Maryland man collects his second big lottery prize eight years later

Jan. 2 (UPI) — A Maryland man won a $250,000 scratch-off ticket and returned to lottery headquarters eight years later to claim a $50,000 Powerball prize.

The Prince George’s County man nicknamed “The $50,000 Man” told Maryland Lottery officials that he purchased his Powerball ticket for the Oct. 18 drawing from Exxon, 6500 Suitland Road, Morningside.

He visited the lottery headquarters in Baltimore on Friday and won the $50,000 prize by matching four white balls in the drawing.

“I would be a little happier if I matched another number, but it’s still a great prize,” the federal employee said.

The winner, who won $250,000 on a scratch-off ticket in 2018, said he was surprised to find out he had hit the jackpot for the second time.

“I found out I won by scanning the ticket on the app,” he said. “When I saw the $50,000, I had to double-check the numbers. I couldn’t believe it.”

The winner said his previous winnings were used to buy a new car and add to his savings. He said he doesn’t have any plans yet for his latest windfall.
