Luka Doncic scores 35, Lakers hold off cold-shooting Knicks 110-97 in LeBron’s absence

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Luka Doncic scored 35 points and eight rebounds, Austin Reeves added 25 points and the Los Angeles Lakers overcame the injury absence of LeBron James to beat the New York Knicks 110-97 on Sunday.

Rui Hachimura scored 13 points for the Lakers, who have never trailed against the Knicks in their four-game winning streak despite James missing his second straight game with a bruised left elbow and injured left foot.

The Lakers struggled in the fourth quarter, making just one field goal in the final 6 1/2 minutes as New York closed a 23-point deficit to 10 points. But the Knicks couldn’t hit enough shots to capitalize and committed eight fourth-quarter turnovers.

Luke Kennard hit a three-pointer with 1:37 left, and Doncic made his fifth three-pointer with 1:05 left.

Karl-Anthony Towns had 25 points and 16 rebounds for the Knicks, who lost for the second time in six games.

Jalen Brunson scored 10 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter, but New York shot 8-for-34 from 3-point range in the second stop of a five-game trip that began with an impressive win in Denver. Mikal Bridges was held scoreless in 27 minutes.
