Last serve: Olympic volleyball star Jordan Larson announces this is her final season playing

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Four-time Olympic medalist and volleyball star Jordan Larson said Friday that this season will be her last on the court as a professional athlete.

Larson, 39, is a co-owner and player for LOVB Nebraska, one of six founding members of the volleyball league, which is entering its second professional season. Nebraska will host its home opener on Sunday and the season finale on April 4.

“I still have a lot of love for the game,” Jordan said. “As you get older, so do the things that come with it. I’m living off the house money and every day is an absolute blessing. … It just seems like a time to celebrate the growth of volleyball in the state and how we continue to grow the sport.”

Larson, a native of Hooper, Nebraska, is the captain of the U.S. national team that won its first Olympic gold medal in 2021. She was the MVP and top outside hitter at the Tokyo Olympics, and her shot sealed the gold medal match.

She is one of three volleyball players in history to win four Olympic medals, including silver in 2012 and 2024, and a bronze in 2016. She played four seasons at the University of Nebraska, competing in the Division I national championship in 2006 after finishing as runner-up in 2005.

League One Volleyball, branded LOVB, pronounced “LOVE,” debuted last year after raising more than $100 million in funding from private equity firms and individuals including Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn and NBA star Kevin Durant.
