Things were different when the Michigan football team signed the bulk of its 2026 recruiting class. Sherrone Moore is still leading the program and is more than a week away from losing her job. But he’s the one who finds the players to sign, and once they put pen to paper, he talks about them.
But now, former Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham is taking the lead, and he’s inherited quite a bit of experience. But even then, he had to convince them all to stay because they had signed on to play for Moore.

Now that Whittingham has been on the job for more than a month, he appeared on the Big Ten Network and shared his thoughts on several signees. Starting with edge rusher Carter Meadows, one of two five-star prospects, he’s excited about his size and thinks he can really be an impact player.
“Carter Meadows – a tall, handsome young man,” Whittingham said. “At 6-foot-7, one of the top defensive ends in the country, if not the top. Great athlete. As I mentioned, height is a big positive for him and had some good conversations with Carter. Young guy from Maryland, we’re excited to get him here in June.”
Meadows will arrive in the summer, but one of the other five-star prospects, running back Savion Hiter, is already on campus as an early enrollee.

Whittingham noted that this factor he possesses should pay dividends for a group that already enjoys a strong position.
“Savion is probably the best running back this year,” Whittingham said. “He’s a highly rated player and he’s here now and he’s doing a great job. His training and his performance have been really good and I’m excited to see what he can do in spring ball.”
Spring training will begin on March 17 and the annual spring game will be held on April 18.
