Juventus captain felt like crying after Champions League comeback falls short against Galatasaray

TURIN, Italy (AP) — Juventus captain Manuel Locatelli felt like crying Wednesday as he watched his team suffer a crushing defeat at the hands of Galatasaray in the Champions League.

After trailing 5-2 in the first leg, Juventus took a 3-0 lead in the second – despite playing with 10 men for almost the entire second half after Lloyd Kelly was sent off – and sent the game into overtime.

Galatasaray scored twice in overtime and eventually lost 2-3, but won with a total score of 7-5.

Despite being eliminated, Juventus fans applauded their team after the game.

“It almost makes me want to cry because of how much we believe,” Locatelli said. “I think we gave our hearts – and more.”

“These games,” he added, “stay with you.”

Juventus defender Federico Gatti, who scored the team’s second goal, felt his eligibility had been waived last week.

“It was frustrating because we were a little tired going into overtime,” he said. “We did get the game back on track, but I say it again – we let the game slip away in the first leg. A draw like this simply can’t end like this.”
