New Delhi: Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif praised veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar for his match-winning performance against Delhi Capitals early on.
Defending a target of 176, Bhuvneshwar reduced DC to 18/3 in the powerplay and ended up with impressive figures of 3/26. His strong form this season has continued with 10 wickets in six games, showing that he still has the ability to trouble top-order batsmen with his swing.
Kaif took to X (formerly Twitter) to reflect on Bhuvneshwar’s journey and raised the possibility of a national comeback.
“Sometimes people get emotional. Watching Bhuvi bowl so beautifully today took me back to the days when he was just 17. I was the UP captain and was impressed with his control and swing. But the selectors said he was too young. I insist. Bhuvi made his Ranji debut, giving Sachin Paaji a duck in the final. He is 36 now and still troubles the best batsmen with his swing. India making a comeback? Why not, Bhuvi Still have it in him,” he wrote.
Bhuvneshwar, who last played for India in 2022, took 294 wickets in international cricket and recently became the second bowler to take 200 wickets in the IPL.
Despite Bhuvneshwar’s early breakthrough, Delhi Capitals recovered well in the chase. KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs scored crucial 50s while David Miller ended the game with a quick unbeaten cameo.
Earlier, Royal Challengers Bangalore were at 175/8 with Phil Salt top-scoring. In the end, DC sealed the victory and moved up the rankings, while RCB missed the opportunity to consolidate their position.
