New Delhi: The BCCI has warned IPL teams that stricter action may be taken if the teams continue to violate rules in the 2026 season. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the board is reviewing the protocol and may take stronger action against teams that harm the image of the league.
The warning comes after Rajasthan Royals faced two separate controversies this season. Team coach Ravinder Singh Bhinder was fined Rs 1 lakh after he was caught using his mobile phone near the dugout during a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Later, captain Riyan Parag was fined 25% of the match fee and had points deducted after he was found smoking an e-cigarette in the dressing room during a match against Kings XI Punjab.
“We are exploring some other options on how to bring in teams that are violating the norms,” Saikia said, according to news agency ANI. “We will take some action. We are looking at various terms and conditions and agreements of the IPL [around] How the team is performing. “
Sakia emphasized that maintaining discipline is not only the responsibility of the players, but also of team officials and the entire team.
“It’s not just the players or the officials. As a team, they have to maintain a certain decorum so that the image of the IPL is not adversely affected. To ensure that we have to answer the call, we will take some action,” he added.
Bhinder has reportedly apologized to the BCCI anti-corruption wing and said the use of the phone near the dugout was an accident.
Sangakkara says the issue has been resolved
Rajasthan Royals head coach Kumar Sangakkara also reacted to the controversies, admitting that such incidents reflect poorly on the team but insisting that the team has dealt with the matter internally.
“Certainly I think it’s a negative reflection on the team, any kind of controversy,” Sangakkara said. “A constant reminder to players is to make sure they are accountable to the team, our culture and our values.”
