Illinois’ Humrichous on midseason wedding: ‘It was beautiful’

It’s a big week for Illinois’ Ben Humrichous.

On Monday, he helped lead Illinois to a record-setting win over Missouri in the annual bragging rights game.

On Tuesday, he married former Illini women’s basketball player Adalia McKenzie.

“It’s beautiful. It’s a lot of fun. Adalja looks beautiful. It’s great,” Hanrihouse said before the Illini’s final non-conference matchup against Southern on Sunday. “The gospel was preached. We were planning a wedding in three months, so I wasn’t sure how long it would take, but it was exactly what God wanted and it was fun.”

In his final year of college basketball, Humrios also said he recognizes that life in marriage will bring some challenges.

“I’m excited to see how things go,” Hamrichos said. “I can only imagine that getting married has brought new challenges or released a lot of challenges for me. But the best thing is I can tell the difference. When I come home, I will go home. Hopefully it brings new challenges, but it also answers a lot of prayers.”

Several members of the Illini program attended Tuesday’s wedding, including head coach Brad Underwood.
