One homeowner was happy to purchase a home with paid-off solar panels, but was shocked when they received a bill for solar service from a Tesla.
They posted about their experiences on the r/solar Reddit subreddit.
“I was told that the lease is fully paid and there are no monthly fees associated with it,” the original poster said. “We moved in and settled in, and over the next few months we realized that the previous owner never transferred ownership to us after the sale. … After a lot of effort to get Tesla to transfer ownership and surveillance rights to us, we finally succeeded and now have direct tracking. Awesome!”
Even if you have to pay these costs off yourself, solar panels can save you a lot of money on utility bills over time, not to mention the peace of mind you’ll gain if you have solar panels and battery storage that are independent of the grid.
Whether you prefer to buy or lease solar panels, TCD’s Solar Explorer can help you get started with solar panel installation.
But in this case, the savings expected by the time the homeowner receives the bill are offset.
“I just received a ‘flat rate monthly’ bill today and I’m completely confused as to why I’m receiving this bill,” they said. “I didn’t receive any warning from Tesla that I would be receiving a monthly bill…is this…is this normal?”
Fortunately, the problem is easily solved. The original poster said in the comments: “Success! Tesla admits they screwed up and is canceling that bill and all further bills.”
