The indie game, the long-awaited sequel to 2017’s Hollow Knight, has been in development for seven years and faced multiple delays. Amid intense anticipation and speculation from fans, the Cherrys have largely maintained radio silence on how the game will unfold.
Earlier this year, during a Nintendo Switch 2 direct demo in April, Silksong was finally confirmed to launch in 2025. Then at the Xbox Games Showcase in June, Microsoft said Hollow Knight: Silksong would launch on its ROG Xbox Ally handheld device in Holiday 2025 — a release window that has been narrowed to an October 16 release date.
However, the Cherry team later issued a rare update clarifying that Silksong is not tied to the console version and will be released before this year’s holiday season. Late last month, the studio finally confirmed the release date for Hollow Knight: Silksong during Gamescom 2025, along with a hands-on demo of the game.
Silksong brings a new protagonist, Bumblebee, the former Princess of Hallownest who appeared in the first game as a supporting character. The game is set in the new kingdom of Pharloom, and Hornet must travel through the haunted kingdom to reach the castle at the top of the kingdom. The game will be available on PC (via Steam and the Xbox app), Linux, Mac, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2. It will also launch day one on Xbox Game Pass.
