Hastings hunting ‘big scalp’ against ‘quality’ Toulouse

Glasgow Warriors half Adam Hastings admits Saturday’s Champions League clash with Toulouse is a “huge” test and believes it will be one of Scotland’s biggest “scalps” if they can beat the competition’s most successful side.

The French side have lifted the prestigious trophy six times and feature the likes of France captain Antoine Dupont and Scotland full-back Blair Kinghorn.

Despite the temporary radio silence, the Warriors’ No. 10 is still looking forward to catching up with his international teammates.

It’s very much a business case, though, and this sell-out glamor game represents a huge step up even from the Selsea win in game one.

“Yeah, huge,” Hastings agreed.

“Obviously they’ve won a lot of games now and are obviously playing at a high level. Dupont has a back injury right now and they miss him, so that should be exciting.

“You want to test yourself against the best teams and see where you stand, so everyone is really excited.

“He’s one of the best players in the world so it’s exciting for us and something we need to focus on, but they have high quality in almost every position in the team.

“We will spend some time this week previewing them, but the focus will be on ourselves and what we can do to neutralize their threat.”

As well as facing the challenge of Dupont, Hastings is also looking forward to seeing Kinghorn again and potentially getting a point off him, giving the Glasgow side a shock result against a team they haven’t faced in over a decade.

The 29-year-old added: “We haven’t had any contact this week so I’ll call him later to see when he gets here and what hotel they’re staying at.”

“I don’t know when Glasgow last played Toulouse but I think, without a doubt, it will be one of the biggest scalps we can take.”
