Greene County deputy shoots woman while responding to well-being check

A woman was shot by a Greene County Sheriff’s Office deputy on the evening of Saturday, January 24, while undergoing a wellness check.

According to a GCSO news release, around 8:30 Saturday night, GCSO responded to the 3700 block of North Bear Creek Avenue north of Springfield to check on the well-being of a woman after receiving a report that she was suicidal.

A woman opened the door and brandished a gun, the release said. She pointed a gun at an officer, who then shot the woman, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies provided medical care at the scene until medical responders arrived. The woman was taken to hospital by emergency medical services.

No one else was injured, according to the release. This is an ongoing investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available.

Greene County Sheriff Jim Arnott has activated the Sheriff’s Incident Team (SCIT) to assist in the investigation. SCIT is composed of investigators from Christian, Lawrence and Webster counties.
