The nation’s No. 1 team returns to the top of the WCHA.
On December 5, in a showdown between the nation’s top-ranked teams, the top-ranked Wisconsin women’s hockey team defeated Ohio State 2-1 at the Ohio State Ice Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

The matchup is the first meeting of the season between the two rivals who have faced each other in the past four national championship games. This game is their 12th gameth A direct duel between the top two.

The difference this time was junior goalkeeper Ava McNaughton’s stunning shot, freshman Adela Sapovalivova’s power-play goal in the second period and senior Caroline Harvey’s fourth game-winning goal of the season.
A two-goal lead helped Wisconsin withstand the Buckeyes’ charge in the final four minutes, with four shots either blocked or saved, their only goals of the game.

The win brings the Badgers’ overall record to 17-1-1 and WCHA record to 11-1-1, with 34 points, two points ahead of Ohio State. The teams will conclude the series on Saturday, December 6 at 2 p.m.
Washington ended the night with a 34-26 field goal advantage. McNaughton made 25 saves and improved his save percentage on the season to .939, which ranked second in the league.
Sapovaliva’s goal came at 16:58 of the second period on assists from seniors Kirsten Simms and Laila Edwards. At 15 minutes and 51 seconds of the third quarter, Harvey scored on a pass from Edwards and helped Lacey Eden graduate.
