Giants great Jeremy Shockey makes Delanie Walker’s TE Mount Rushmore

Former Tennessee Titans tight end Delany Walker recently shared his personal Mount Rushmore of the greatest tight ends in history during an interview with FanSided’s Sterling Holmes, and one entry caught people’s attention: New York Giants legend Jeremy Shockey.

Walker, a three-time Pro Bowler who played 14 seasons in the NFL, named the following quartet: John McGee, Shannon Sharpe, Tony Gonzalez and Shockey. He praised McGee as a pioneer of the modern receiving tight end, Sharp praised Walker’s explosive speed and inspiration at a young age, and Gonzalez was an undeniable must-have. Then Shockey came.

“Oh, let’s go. Jeremy Shockey. I like Jeremy Shockey. Like, I know Jeremy Shockey is a bad boy, but I like that bad boy mentality. That blond hair. That’s just a dog in there. Man,” Walker said.

A four-time Pro Bowler, primarily with the Giants (2002-2007), Shockey totaled 547 catches for 6,143 yards and 37 touchdowns in his career, earning first-team All-Pro honors as a rookie and contributing to Super Bowl appearances with the Giants (XLII) and Saints (XLIV).

Unfortunately for Shockey, he did not play in Super Bowl XLII due to a fractured fibula.

While his performance was solid rather than record-breaking compared to modern stars, Walker’s nod highlighted Shockey’s bruising, tough-guy style and charisma that made him a standout of his era and a formidable block-catch hybrid.

Walker also mentioned Travis Kelce as a strong contender, but kept the monument to those four.

The selection underscores how Shockey’s grit and legendary play on the field left a lasting impression on peers like Walker, even if it was somewhat unexpected among a roster of tight end superstars.
