Fox News contributor and conservative legal commentator Andy McCarthy tear the president apart Donald Trump He lost his temper again after the Supreme Court decided to strike down tariffs he had imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).
“President Trump’s attack on the Supreme Court is a complete disgrace,” McCarthy said in an op-ed. national review. “The court tried in good faith to uphold the law, and in my opinion succeeded. Now, the president must know that the consequences of his nonsense will be harassment of judges by people as crazy as himself among his supporters. Is there a plan to start a riot on the steps of the Supreme Court this time, while he can still pardon the instigators like he did with the Capitol rioters?”
“Furthermore, what is the value of an oath to faithfully enforce the law from a man who has no respect for the law or delusions of seeing the law as something he personally wants — a law that he does not want to be viewed not just as illegal but as treasonous?” he asked defiantly, before accusing congressional Republicans of “derelict” in their duty to uphold the rule of law.
McCarthy went on to argue that the new tariffs Trump is trying to impose under Section 122 of the Trade Act are “more clearly illegal than Trump’s IEEPA tariffs,” arguing that “because President Trump does not have the unilateral authority to order tariffs, he must meet the prerequisites of Section 122 to justify imposing them. He cannot. Not even close.”
At a Friday news conference after the Supreme Court issued its ruling, the president said the ruling had been corrupted by foreign influence and influenced by the three Republican-appointed justices who voted to overturn his tariffs.
“You can’t knock them [the justices appointed by Democrats’] Loyalty – One thing you can do with some of our employees. Others believe they are being politically correct, something that has happened too often with some members of this court before. It’s such a shame that this happens so often in court. The voting issue has to be dealt with specifically and the fact that they are just fools and lackeys from the Rino and Radical Left Democrats has nothing to do with it and they are very unpatriotic and unfaithful to our Constitution,” Trump said.
His anger had not subsided by Monday morning, when he announced that he would “refer to the ‘Supreme Court’ in lowercase letters for a period of time because of a complete lack of respect.”
