Instead, he looks set to return in 2026, according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.
Cotillo added that the Red Sox are interested in bringing Martin back after he spends time in Boston in 2023 and 2024.
After two seasons with the Red Sox, Martin joined the Texas Rangers in 2025 on a $5.5 million contract.
He performed well, posting a 2.98 ERA in 42.1 innings pitched out of the bullpen.

However, Martin has been on the injured list multiple times — due to right shoulder fatigue, left calf strain and thoracic outlet syndrome diagnosed in September.

He turns 40 in June, so Martin’s days are numbered. But apparently, he didn’t want to hang the nails up just yet.
Martin initially entered professional baseball in 2005 when he was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 21st round out of McLennan Community College.
In addition to his time in Japan, he pitched again for the Rockies, Yankees, Rangers, Braves, Cubs, Dodgers, Red Sox and Rangers.
Martin has a career ERA of 3.33 in 418 MLB games. It sounds like he’ll be on the major league mound again in 2026.
