Being an NFL coach requires long hours and tireless work. It’s not uncommon to read stories about coaches showing up at team facilities in the early hours of the morning and not leaving until it’s dark outside. Given such a grueling schedule, it’s not surprising if most NFL coaches are sleep-deprived throughout the day and their bodies are in dire need of rest.
Because of this, it wouldn’t be surprising if NFL Network cameras caught New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn sleeping during the NFL Combine on Thursday.

If so, it won’t look very good.
The situation became an open question Thursday after video emerged of Glenn with his eyes closed at the event.
Write your own jokes. “Wonder why the Jets went 3-14 last season? Maybe it’s because their head coach fell asleep at the combine.” Considering the Jets’ recent woes and head coach Glenn’s debut, it’s easy to joke and assume the worst.
It would also be foolish to assume that’s what happened in the clip. Given the distance and angle of the camera, Glenn could be looking down at a sheet or laptop in front of him. Considering how quickly he reacted when the cameras were on him, it’s likely he was watching coverage of the incident and became excited when he realized he was being featured on the broadcast.

But that doesn’t stop fans from joking because — let’s face it — the Jets are an easy target. The team hasn’t had a winning season since 2015, and two major transfers last offseason — Glenn and quarterback Justin Fields — fell through. While Fields’ issues have reached the point where his future as a starter could be written off, it’s far too early in Glenn’s coaching career to make such a statement. His first season didn’t go well, but he could still save the day in year two.
The likelihood of that happening could depend on the Jets’ performance in the 2026 NFL Draft, in which the team has the second overall pick. Expecting the Jets to win in the draft might be asking too much given the team’s recent history, but if the head coach stays awake and focused during the combine, the team will likely perform better in games.
For the sake of Jets fans, let’s hope that’s the case on Thursday.
