FSU offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn has announced his retirement after 35 years.
Malzahn posted on social media, “After 35 years (15 years of high school, 20 years of college), I am grateful for the incredible journey God has put me on. Now it is time for me to leave coaching.”
Malzahn began his college head coaching career at Arkansas State in 2012 after a successful career as offensive coordinator at Auburn University. He led the Red Wolves to a 9-3 season before returning to Auburn as the Tigers’ head coach. In his first season, Malzahn led the Tigers to the BCS National Championship, where they lost 34-31 to Florida State. Malzahn was fired in 2021 after eight seasons at Auburn, albeit without a losing season. A few months later, Malzahn was hired as UCF’s new head coach after Josh Heupel left for Tennessee. In 2024, after four seasons with the Cavaliers, Malzahn resigned to become Florida State’s offensive coordinator.
