Fischer: Lakers, LeBron James are ‘ready to move on’ from each other

With the NBA trade deadline less than 72 hours away, some Los Angeles Lakers fans are wondering if LeBron James will be on the move soon. A trade involving him before Thursday’s deadline seems unlikely, but, of course, he could leave the team when he becomes a free agent this summer.

For months, people have been talking about his future and even whether the Lakers were ready to move on from him. During a live broadcast on Monday, NBA insider Jake Fischer said both sides are ready to move on.

“There’s no question that the Lakers are ready to move on from LeBron James, and I think LeBron James is ready to move on from the Lakers. That’s the sentiment right now in Los Angeles in anticipation of what’s going to happen this summer.”

There is no doubt that there are many Lakers fans who want the team to say goodbye to James this summer. This is his eighth season with the purple and gold, and while he brought the team an NBA championship in 2020, many consider his performance with the team to be disappointing overall.

The Lakers are currently 29-19 and firmly in sixth place in the Western Conference, even though their new center Luka Doncic is having one of his best seasons yet. Considering the lack of tradable assets and the league’s strict salary cap restrictions, perhaps letting James go is the only way for the Lakers to return to their former championship glory as soon as possible.

On the other hand, it could also be the case that keeping James on a team-friendly contract for another year or even two might be the best path to another world championship.
