As Michigan’s winter freeze continues, recruits from across the country are preparing for spring visits to Ann Arbor. In this edition of our recruiting roundup, let’s start with the four-star defensive backs who will be visiting next month.
Michigan’s 2027 Spring Four-Star Safety Tour
It’s always good to have the Chicago area in the recruiting process, and that’s what the new staff is trying to do when recruiting four-star 2027 safety Tavares Harrington. Harrington is ranked No. 137 in his class and No. 6 among Illinois players in the 247Sports composite rankings. He is a highly sought-after recruit and has already received more than 40 job offers.

The junior safety told Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong ($) that he will visit Ann Arbor March 17-19. Wiltvon asked him what stood out about Michigan.
“The plan,” Harrington said. “Their work. They’re a strong team with great coaching and the way they execute their plan.”
Harrington is also scheduled to officially visit Georgia on the weekend of June 5 and Alabama two weekends later. In addition to those two schools and Michigan State, Harrington said his other priority school is Nebraska. Unless Nebraska swoops in, Michigan has the advantage of being the group’s first visit and hopes the coaching staff can convince him to lock in an official visit in June as well.
2027 linebacker talks Michigan State’s recent offers
New head coach Kyle Whittingham and his staff have been busy making offers to recruits, including 2027 linebacker Bryce Breeden. Whittingham and linebackers coach Alex Whittingham visited the Texas linebacker last weekend and extended the offer on Saturday.

Breeden told The Rival’s Sam Spiegelman that he plans to visit Michigan in the spring and then return for an official visit in June.
“They’re going to be a real contender as we get closer to June,” Breeden said.
Whittingham assured Breeden they would bring stability and growth to the program, and it sounds like the Wolverines are prioritizing him.
“Michigan has always been a strong football team,” Breeden said. “Their style of defense is a big run defense and I fit right in. The reason this offer is significant is because I have always respected Michigan football. Playing for the Wolverines will bring me closer to my dad.”

While Breeden isn’t yet ranked in the composite rankings, he does hold more than two dozen offers, including some pretty good offers from Houston, Michigan State, Northwestern, Texas Tech and more.
2026 TE commit excited to get started at Michigan
It’s always an encouraging sign for the future when a Michigan player is voted a team captain by his high school teammates, and that’s exactly the case with 2026 tight end Mason Bonner. Bonner committed to Michigan State in late May and signed in December, and his high school coach Jeremy Bennett told The Wolverine’s Ethan McDowell ($) that he received a vote from every one of his teammates.
“We all know he’s big and long and runs routes like a 5-9 slot receiver,” Bennett said. “He did all those things, but it was his leadership this year. It was him not letting our team fall by the wayside in the face of adversity…His leadership and the example he set, not just with words but with his actions, I think was huge for our program this year and helped us turn it around and get to the quarterfinals.”

McDowell also reported that offensive line coach Jim Hardin visited Bonner last month and said Bonner will join the program in June following his senior basketball season.
“He hasn’t stepped foot on a Michigan campus as a student yet, but his comment to me was, ‘Coach, I’m a Michigan guy,'” Bennett said. “He’s just anxious to get there and be with his teammates.”
