Delhi to Get 100 EV Charging Stations by July End, to Charge Under Rs. 3 per Unit

Under the Delhi government’s flagship initiative, 100 electric vehicle charging stations will be set up at metro stations, bus stations and other places in the national capital.

Delhi Power Minister Atish reviewed the project along with power department officials on Thursday. During the meeting, Atish directed officials of the power department and Delhi Transport Corporation (DTL) to actively resolve issues arising in the installation of electric vehicle charging stations and ensure that 50 charging stations are ready by the end of April and 100 charging stations by the end of July.

She directed the relevant personnel to expedite the work and complete the work within the stipulated time. She further said, “The efforts of the Kejriwal government have made Delhi the electric vehicle (EV) capital of the country in recent years. In this direction, the government is setting up 100 EV charging stations across the city to strengthen Delhi’s EV charging infrastructure.”

“Through this project, every part of the city will have high-quality and convenient electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and the charging cost per electric vehicle will be not only the lowest in the country, but also the lowest in the world. People will charge less than Rs 3 per electric vehicle,” she added.

Atishi said that thanks to the government’s efforts, the proportion of electric vehicles in the capital’s total car sales in December 2022 was 16.7%, the highest in the country.

“The demand for electric vehicles is growing so fast in Delhi now that we are building 100 electric vehicle charging stations in the national capital to ensure that people have enough charging stations around them and do not face any charging-related issues,” the minister said.

It is worth noting that all these charging stations set up by the Delhi government are based on the public-private partnership (PPP) model.

Last year, the government issued the largest tender in the country in this sector. The cost per unit of charging at these charging stations is even less than Rs. The official statement says 3 per unit.
