Samsung will soon allow users to unlock Mahindra electric SUV in India directly from their Galaxy devices using the new digital key feature in Samsung Wallet, the South Korean tech giant announced at an event on Wednesday. Users will also have the option to share the digital car key with their Mahindra electric vehicle for a limited time to provide other users with temporary access to the vehicle. This could potentially eliminate the need to carry around physical car keys. Nearly a year ago, the Indian auto giant launched the BE 6 and XEV 9e series of electric vehicles in the country.
Samsung Wallet will let users create digital car keys for their Mahindra eSUV
The South Korean tech giant will soon add digital car key functionality to the Samsung Wallet app for Indian users. The feature will initially be compatible with select Mahindra Electric Origin SUVs in the country. At an event in Bengaluru, Samsung demonstrated the digital car key feature on the Mahindra BE 6.
In addition to locking and unlocking the Mahindra eSUV, the digital car key feature of the Samsung Wallet app also allows users to start the vehicle using a paired Galaxy device. The feature also allows users to share their electric vehicle’s digital key with friends and family for a limited time. Access to the vehicle can be managed in the Samsung Wallet app.
If a Galaxy device with a digital car key is lost or stolen, the tech giant is also letting users use the Samsung Find service to remotely lock the phone, delete data and digital car keys. For security, Samsung Wallet will support biometric or PIN-based user authentication support. This prevents others from gaining unauthorized access to their Mahindra eSUV and its corresponding digital key.
Recently, the Samsung Wallet app was also reportedly updated to show real-time activity for flights, train travel, and events. It displays information on your phone’s always-on display and lock screen. Additionally, users can choose to pin the status to the top of the screen next to the time.
