Matthew Stafford’s Saturday started with being named a first-team All-Pro, and he ended it with a strong performance that showed why he’s the front-runner for the NFL’s top award.
With the Rams trailing 27-31 late in the fourth quarter, Stafford went 6-of-7 for a 71-yard touchdown pass to take the lead. The final drive was a 19-yard dart to tight end Colby Parkinson, who made a twisting catch as he fell into the end zone.

After the game, wide receiver Davante Adams said Stafford told the offense “let’s go and steal these guys’ hearts” on the final drive.
“It was really cold at the time, just to hear this“, Adams said on the team’s website. “I actually laughed at that moment because, honestly, I thought that was one of the most incredible things you could say in that moment. To hear him say that, and the look on his face, and then the touchdown, and then the look on his face, that’s MVP stuff. “
Stafford went 12-of-15 for 143 yards and two touchdowns throughout the fourth quarter, but none of those heroics will count toward the MVP voting, which ends before the game even begins. While it remains to be seen whether Stafford will win the award, Saturday’s performance gives reason to think the Rams may still get a bigger trophy this season.
