While many Cleveland Cavaliers fans were blindsided by the trade of Darius Garland to the Los Angeles Clippers, Garland himself was not.
“This is going to happen no matter what, whether in [trade] Garland told Andscape’s Marc J. Spears.[My agent] rich [Paul] I had this conversation last summer. “

The Cavaliers have clearly made decisions internally on how to deal with the inevitable shakeup in a way that not only makes the team adaptable, but also makes it financially viable. The trade for Garland, who was an All-Star last season, failed to reach that level this year. The 26-year-old suffered a mysterious toe injury during last season’s playoffs, requiring offseason surgery and delaying the start of the season. But even after returning, Garland didn’t look like himself.
“There was definitely a factor (in the trade) with the toe,” Garland continued. “They don’t know if I’m going to be healthy this season, and I will be.”

The ongoing injury issues, combined with the fact that the Cavaliers now have a window of opportunity, makes a trade even more necessary. The players Cleveland received in return were excellent and fit the “win now” model.
“I believe they think James (Harden) has something that I don’t have,” Garland said. “Even though he didn’t make an All-Star this year, he still has playoff experience and All-Star times to this point. But, yeah, they want to win now. They also have a team. I guess I really wasn’t part of the plan.
“But now, I’m in a really good situation here.”
Garland has yet to play in a Clippers game this season, although he and the team are confident his debut is imminent. The Cavaliers may have made the right decision with their former point guard, as his inconsistent health has often been an excuse. While he left Cleveland under unfortunate circumstances, both parties seemed happy with the deal.
