Critical Resources launches solid-state battery evaluation

Tim Wither, managing director of Critical Resources, discusses the company’s plans for evaluating structured solid-state lithium-ion batteries in the United States with Proactive, marking a step from early selection to laboratory validation of next-generation battery materials. Wither said the company has begun a “structured approach assessment pathway” through CEPS, focusing on two parallel projects. The first centers around an amorphous solid electrolyte, dubbed the “heart of the battery,” and is designed to replace the fire-risk liquid electrolyte in conventional lithium-ion batteries. The second project involves dry deposition hypersonic deposition technology to efficiently 3D print cathode materials in a solvent-free process designed to reduce manufacturing steps.
