The New England Patriots have reached agreement on a free-agent deal with former New York Jets linebacker Alijah Vera-Tucker, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports. She added that Cleveland was interested.
“Good morning. A lot of action happened overnight, including the Patriots agreeing to a three-year, $42 million contract with former Jets linebacker Alijah Vera-Tucker in a deal that could be worth as much as $48 million, according to sources,” Russini wrote.
“The New York Giants and Cleveland Browns are also actively involved,” Russini added.
For Cleveland, missing out on Vera-Tucker means the team may need to continue exploring other options to strengthen the offensive line. Protecting the quarterback and improving the run game must be a priority this offseason.

The Browns’ defensive line wasn’t good enough at times last season.
While they didn’t land a target, their reported interest suggests the front office is actively trying to address needs in key areas, which is a good thing.
