Chargers remain undecided on fifth-year option for Quentin Johnston

Chargers front office has yet to decide whether to exercise wide receiver Quentin Johnston’s fifth-year option, ESPN’s Dan Graziano reports.

Johnston’s fifth-year option for the 2027 season is $15,935,000. Because Johnston has reached a certain threshold of playing time but has not yet earned Pro Bowl recognition, his selection falls into “Tier III” of the NFL’s structured salary scale.

Johnston has improved in his third season, catching 51 passes for 735 yards and eight touchdowns in 14 games.

General manager Joe Hortiz will likely wait until after the 2026 NFL Draft and initial free agency to make a final decision.

“We haven’t talked about it yet. Again, it’s early days, but I will say this: I love Q and the growth he’s made. His improvement from year one to year three has been amazing. I’m a big fan of Q,” Hortis said of Johnston at his end-of-season press conference in January.

The team has until May 1 to make a final decision on the 2023 first-round pick.
