Chandler shines bright in Pirates win over Rays; Cruz’s impressive breaks tie

The Tampa Bay Rays entered Friday’s game on a six-game winning streak, but the Pittsburgh Pirates refused to lose a second straight game since losing their first two games of the season.

Bubba Chandler pitched a gem and Oneil Cruz hit a home run to lift the Pirates (12-8) to a 5-1 victory over the Rays (11-8) at PNC Park.

Second to last, 1-0 PIT: Marcell Ozuna singled, advanced to second and scored on Nick Martinez’s double to Spencer Horwitz in the right field corner (0-1).

Sixth place, 1-1: Junior Caminero tied the game with an RBI single off Bubba Chandler with two outs. Chandler Simpson scored in the game, singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch.

6th place from last, 3-1 pit stop: The Pirates took the lead in the bottom of the inning when O’Neal Cruz hit a two-run homer off the Clement wall in right field.

8th place from last, 5-1 pit stop: Brandon Lowe led off the inning with a two-run double off the wall in right center field against Yendrys Gómez.
