Car crashes into Perinton restaurant, driver flees scene

Salt is a restaurant located at 7408 Pittsford-Palmyra Road in Perinton when a car crashed into the building late on January 20, causing severe damage.

The incident was first shared on social media

News of the accident was first shared on the restaurant’s Instagram page.

“To say we are shocked and heartbroken is an understatement,” the post read in part. “The only saving grace at this time is that none of our staff or customers were injured.”

Investigators say what happened

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Pittsford-Palmyra Road when it swerved into the westbound lane, left the road and struck the restaurant and support cables connected to nearby utility poles.

According to authorities, buildings and vehicles sustained significant damage.

The driver fled the scene

A passing motorist called 911 to report the accident. Deputies said the caller did not witness the incident and investigators later determined the driver had left the scene.

Officers searched for the driver with the assistance of a drone and the Rochester Police Department’s K9 unit, but have not yet located or identified the individual.

Investigation is ongoing

The investigation is ongoing. Authorities say there is no threat to the public.

Salt opens in April 2024 at the former TJ Noonan location.
