Capcom officially announced Resident Evil 9 on June 6 at the Summer Game Festival. The next entry in the iconic survival horror series is called Resident Evil Requiem and will be released on February 27, 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. Capcom released a trailer for the game at the event, detailing the game’s lore and protagonist. “Resident Evil Requiem” is the work following “Resident Evil Village”, the eighth major work in the series released in 2021.

The trailer focuses on new protagonist Grace Ashcroft (an FBI agent) and her daughter Alyssa Ashcroft, who is investigating a new case that leads her to the ruins of Raccoon City. Ashcroft is investigating a series of deaths that appear to be caused by the spread of infection.
Resident Evil Requiem is being developed in Capcom’s proprietary RE engine and will bring considerable upgrades in visuals, the company said. “Graphic fidelity has undergone a significant evolution, delivering cinematically realistic visuals that vividly convey character emotions and deliver an unprecedented level of immersion,” Capcom said in a press release.
The trailer shows off detailed character models and environments, including a desolate Raccoon City. Capcom has yet to reveal details about the game’s story, but more information about the game will be released in the future.
“The company is steadily developing the game to meet the high expectations of long-time series fans and the global gaming audience,” Capcom said.
Resident Evil Requiem will launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X on February 27, 2026. The horror game is now wishlisted on Steam and PlayStation Store.
Nearly a year ago in July 2024, Capcom first confirmed that it was developing Resident Evil 9 during the Capcom Next live broadcast. The company also announced that “Resident Evil 7: Biohazard” director Yuki Nakanishi will direct “Resident Evil 9.” Nakanishi said at the time, “It’s hard to figure out what to do after Resident Evil 7.” “But I found it, and honestly, it feels fulfilling.”
