The New England Patriots’ loss in the Super Bowl was sad for Boston sports fans. But on the bright side, this could be a good sign for the Boston Red Sox.
After being eliminated by the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, the Patriots have lost six Super Bowls in franchise history. This is an NFL record.

Fortunately for Boston sports fans, the Red Sox tend to perform well after New England loses big games.
In early 1986, the Patriots reached their first Super Bowl, where they were defeated by the Chicago Bears. Later that year, Boston won the pennant but lost in painful fashion to the New York Mets in the World Series.
New England’s second loss came in early 1997, when the Red Sox were in pretty good shape. Boston struggled that season but bounced back to make the playoffs in 1998 and 1999 after trading Pedro Martinez.
After winning three Super Bowls in four years in the early 2000s, the Patriots didn’t lose another Super Bowl until early 2008, just months after the Red Sox swept the Colorado Rockies in the World Series.

Four years later, New England lost again in the Super Bowl to Eli Manning and the New York Giants. Fortunately, the pain was relatively short-lived, with Boston winning it all in 2013.
After winning two Super Bowls, the Patriots suffered a shocking loss to Nick Foles and the Philadelphia Eagles in early 2018. The Red Sox appeased the region with the greatest season in franchise history, finishing with their fourth championship of the century.
So if recent history is any guide, New England’s loss to the Seahawks in Super Bowl X on Sunday could mean good luck is in store for Boston baseball this year.
