Bucs sign QB Jake Browning to one-year deal

The Buccaneers signed 2025 backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater with the Detroit Lions. Therefore, the team had to find a new backup for Baker Mayfield, and they found one in a guy who was already starting and winning games.

The Buccaneers have reached agreement with former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Jake Browning on a one-year contract. They did not disclose any financial terms of the deal, which was first reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Browning will also join Connor Bazelak, who signed with the team as a UDFA last year, in the quarterback room.

Browning played a total of 17 games in seven seasons in the NFL. He started in 10 of those games and had a 4-6 record, all of which came while he was with the Bengals. He completed 68.5 percent of his passes for 2,707 yards, 18 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

The team doesn’t need to draft a quarterback now, but could consider bringing in another UDFA to challenge Bazelak.
