Brock Purdy isn’t the only athlete in the family.
The San Francisco 49ers quarterback grew up in Gilbert, Arizona, with his sister, Whittney, and his brother, Chubba. Their parents, Shawn and Carrie, took advantage of the city’s state-of-the-art training facilities to develop three all-star athletes.

Whitney, the oldest of three siblings, went on to play college softball, while Chuba, the youngest, signed to play football at the University of Nevada. Meanwhile, Brock is on an elite team of his own—at least for now, until Chuba can join him in the big leagues.
Although Bullock is the final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, he has already made a name for himself as the 49ers’ quarterback. In December 2022, Bullock played his first NFL game in the presence of his siblings and family, leading the team to a victory over the legendary Tom Brady.
Thanks to the NFL, Bullock and his siblings made even more memories last year. However, one of Bullock’s favorite things was when he pranked his family on draft day. After not hearing his name called for six rounds, Bullock’s chances of being drafted were slim to none. Then the 49ers general manager called.
“I walked out to the living room and everyone was waiting,” Bullock recalled to NBC Sports in September 2023. “Here’s another free agent call,” he told his family, tricking them into believing he wasn’t drafted. “They said, ‘No way, you’re lying,’ and I said, ‘That’s it.’ “

“I was trying to look sad in the chair,” Bullock laughed. His name appeared on the television in large letters before the announcer read his name aloud – prompting a strong reaction from the Purdy family. “They were all screaming and jumping like I was a first-round pick,” he recalled.
Here’s everything you need to know about Brock Purdy’s siblings, Whitney and Chuba, and their special relationship with the quarterback.

For Sean and Kelly, who grew up on opposite coasts, settling in Arizona was a no-brainer. “He’s not going to California and I’m not going to Florida. It’s our compromise. We like it,” Carrie explained their decision in a November 2019 article for The Athletic.

The two raised their children in Gilbert, about 25 miles southeast of Phoenix. Sean was already somewhat familiar with the area, having played minor league baseball in Arizona. As time went on and the Purdy children became involved in sports, it soon became apparent that Gilbert was the right choice.
“Arizona sports are really good,” Bullock said in an interview with the 49ers before a December 2023 game at State Farm Stadium. “As far as the competitive nature goes. I feel like I’m a pretty good athlete because the kids around me are into sports.”
Similar to Bullock, Whitney and Chamba are able to take advantage of Phoenix’s relatively calm climate for year-round training.
