Body and gun found in Texas field in search for missing 19-year-old

Authorities in Texas are searching for a woman who went missing on Christmas Eve and found a body and a gun in a field near her home, officials said Tuesday.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar told reporters it was unclear whether the person was 19-year-old Camila Mendoza Olmos.

He added that while the medical examiner has not yet determined the cause and manner of death, authorities do not suspect foul play and that the man may have died from a self-inflicted wound.

“We want to be able to expedite this process so we can get the community answers that everyone is waiting for,” Salazar said.

Texas ended its clear alert for Olmos on Tuesday night.

Salazar said the body was found in a field about 100 meters from Olmos’ home and that authorities had previously searched the area.

Salazar said they decided to search the area again on Tuesday because of the high brush and with the help of a “small force” of FBI agents.

He said the body was discovered about 10 minutes after the search began. The gun was found nearby, he added.

Olmos was last seen leaving his home in northwest Bexar County on the morning of Dec. 24. Olmos’ mother told NBC News that her daughter usually went for her morning walk but did not return on Dec. 24.
