Blakes’ 21, Mitchell’s 16 power No. 12 Vanderbilt women past Stonehill 109-50

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Mikaela Blakes scored 21 points and dished out seven assists, Aiyana Mitchell scored 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting, and No. 12 Vanderbilt beat Stonehill 109-50 on Sunday.

The Commodores ended their non-district play with a perfect 13-0 start, their third-best start in franchise history. The last time they were 13-0 or better was the 1995-96 season, when they started the season 14-0.

In addition to Blake and Mitchell, Vanderbilt also had four players score in double figures, with Sasha Washington scoring 14 points and Jada Brown, Njakarunga Mwenanda and Justin Pisot scoring 12 points each.

Blakes and Aubrey Galvin each dished out seven assists and grabbed five steals. Brown had a game-high six steals, forced 35 turnovers and scored 46 points.

Vanderbilt dominated in the paint, scoring 64 points at the basket. They led for all but the first 49 seconds of the game and entered halftime with a 60-17 lead.

The Skyhawks (4-7) were led by Julia Webster’s 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting.

No. 12 Vanderbilt will play SEC action at Arkansas on Thursday.

Stonehill will visit New Haven on Friday to begin their Northeast Conference schedule.
