The Buffalo Bills and Ed Oliver have worked together to create some needed salary cap space ahead of the 2026 league season.
With the Bills needing to cut another $22 million in salary cap space before the NFL’s 2026 free agency period begins on March 11, the defensive tackle agreed to restructure his contract with the team. According to KPRC-TV’s Aaron Wilson and others:
In restructuring trades, Oliver worked with the team to pull off moves typical of what general managers have accomplished in recent years.

Oliver, 28, will convert $12.8 million of his 2026 base salary into a signing bonus, lowering his new base salary to $1.3 million next year. Doing so would free up $10.26 million in cap space.
Despite an injury-riddled season in 2025, Oliver is expected to be a star on Buffalo’s defensive front even as he moves to a new scheme that defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard will unveil next year.
Overall, Buffalo ranked No. 5 in the 2019 first-round draft. In 95 career games, Oliver has 30 sacks and 56 tackles for loss.
