PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — December started off mostly dry, but the weather quickly turned rainy.
Thursday’s showers will be the first in a series of wet storm systems in the Pacific Northwest.
Stormy weather is expected to continue into next week, bringing persistent, widespread rain to western Oregon and southwestern Washington.

In Portland, there’s a chance of rain every day for at least the next week and a half.
Forecast models are calling for wet weather to continue at least until next Wednesday.
Portland could see several inches of rain today through next Wednesday, with a range of weather models predicting totals in excess of 4.0 inches in the metro area.

Tuesday and Wednesday are likely to be the rainiest days of next week.
Numbers are likely to be higher in coastal areas given their topography. This is also due to the possibility of moderate to strong atmospheric rivers arriving on Tuesday and Wednesday, adding moisture to these storms.

The risk of urban flooding, coastal flooding and tidal overflows may increase due to ongoing weather systems.

As these storm systems pass through, the coastline can see some of the heaviest rainfall and gusty winds. The potential for river flooding is increasing around the Coast Range, which could cause flooding of homes and farmland.
There is growing confidence that this wet pattern will continue into next week, although exact rainfall totals will change as weather models update over the coming days.
