Liverpool’s move to recruit the 47-year-old paid off immediately, winning the Premier League title at his first try. The club spent £450m on signings in the summer to support their manager.
For a while it looked like Slott and Liverpool could do no wrong – but that has changed in recent weeks. The Reds relinquished their Premier League title in meek fashion – and are currently in tenth place.
Liverpool consider Alonso

Add in a high-profile row with Mohamed Salah and you might think Slott’s position as head coach might soon be under threat.
His contract expires in 2027, but FSG will not make any changes before then.

Xabi Alonso is already in danger
Once a favorite of Liverpool’s midfield, Alonso accepted a huge challenge last summer, joining his other former club Real Madrid.
He got off to a good start but the Spanish capital’s side have fallen apart in recent weeks – leading to Speculation is that he may also lose his job.

“Should the club decide to make a change, Xabi Alonso, who currently coaches Real Madrid, would be the first target,” a report from Caught Offside reads.

The Madrid boss has failed to win over his players with his new approach and their season has hit rock bottom in recent times.
Weekend’s home defeat to Celta Vigo put even more pressure on the 44-year-old – whose short and unhappy spell at the Santiago Bernabeu may soon be over.
Liverpool will then have the chance to seal a deal for Alonso – although Steven Gerrard has not been ruled out as an interim option to see the Anfield club through to the end of the season.
