This year, President Donald Trump signed an executive order declaring Christmas Eve a federal holiday. Many Americans may be wondering how this affects where government employees work.
Here are the businesses and public services that will be open and closed in Greater Cincinnati on December 24 and December 25.
What places are open and closed on Christmas Eve in Greater Cincinnati?
Are banks open on Christmas Eve?
In accordance with the Federal Reserve’s regulations, banks will operate during normal business hours on December 24. Some branches may close early on Christmas Eve, so it’s best to check with your local branch for specific holiday opening hours.
Will FedEx, UPS and USPS be open on Christmas Eve?
On Christmas Eve, FedEx offices will adjust their business hours and some locations will close early. It’s best to check with your local store for specific opening hours on December 24th. According to the FedEx website, FedEx Expedited Package and Air services will offer advance duty and drop-off pickup services in select areas on Christmas Eve. FedEx LTL freight service is not available.
UPS stores will be open, according to the UPS website. UPS will provide normal delivery services but reduced pickup services on Christmas Eve. UPS On-Call Pickup is available for air and international air packages. UPS Next Day Air packages received on Christmas Eve will be scheduled for delivery on December 26th. There will be no UPS Ground service pickups that day.
Post offices will be open for retail transactions on December 24 and mail will be delivered on these days.
Will there be rubbish collection on Christmas Eve?
The City of Cincinnati’s garbage collection schedule will not be affected by Christmas Eve.
Will the school be open on Christmas Eve?
Cincinnati Public Schools, Covington Independent Schools, Newport Independent Schools, Kenton County Schools, Boone County Schools and Campbell County Schools will be closed during the winter break.
Are government offices open on Christmas Eve?
Hamilton County government offices will be open. Offices in Kenton and Boone counties will be closed. In Campbell County, the Fiscal Court Office will be closed, the Property Appraiser’s Office will be open, the Sheriff’s Office will be open half day from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., and the County Clerk’s Office will be open half day from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Federal agencies will be closed on Christmas Eve. Under Trump’s order, some employees may still be required to report to work, at the discretion of agency leaders.
