Alex Honnold’s planned climb of Taipei 101, which was due to be documented during a Netflix live event broadcast in the US on Friday night, has been postponed due to weather, Netflix has announced.
The climb and broadcast will be delayed 24 hours and is currently scheduled to begin on Saturday, January 24 at 8pm ET. “Safety remains our top priority and we appreciate your understanding,” Netflix said in a statement.

Honnold, 40, made history in 2017 when he became the first person to complete a “free solo” climb of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. The 2018 film Free Solo chronicled his explorations and harrowing climbs using only arms, legs and hand chalk.
Now he’s trying to free-solo climb Taipei 101, once the tallest building in the world and still standing at 1,667 feet. Delayed by 24 hours, his mission will depart in Taiwan on Sunday (in the United States on Saturday night).
