A bachelorette party in the Bahamas quickly turns into a travel nightmare for a group of women when the northeastern United States is hit by a historic snowstorm.

Casey Licari, a 35-year-old mother of two from New York, tells PEOPLE that she flew to Harbor Island in the Bahamas early on Friday, February 20. She was there with 10 women, including two mums, a teacher and “a pregnant girl” to celebrate their friend’s bachelorette party. Licari said there was “no sign of an approaching storm” when they arrived.

During the trip, the women participated in a boat day, drank at a bar, saw wildlife such as turtles and pigs, and even sang karaoke at Daddy D’s Night Club. Licari said the trip was filled with unforgettable moments and was first booked a few months ago in November 2025.

But during dinner on Saturday night, the group were left “giggling nervously” after receiving the news from the airline.

“We were out for dinner and had just finished a glass of wine when we got the alert that American Airlines was canceling the flight,” Licari said. “We were like, ‘Oh,’ there are 10 of us. We had to act immediately and figure out how we were going to get home.” “

The traveler said all other alternative flights and accommodations were sold out “within minutes”.

“There’s really no other options. We’re looking at flights, Amtraks, and we’re like, ‘Let’s get a car, just in case,'” she said.

Eventually, the women changed their flight destination from New York to Miami and booked the “last car” available for rental in the area — a rental location 20 to 30 minutes from the Florida airport.

“I personally have two children, ages 2 and 3. My husband also has stomach problems, so he is raising the children alone,” Licari said. “So I just want to get home as soon as possible.”

However, not everyone is confident about plans to drive home. “When we went through Miami customs, they started laughing at us. One Uber driver told us, you’re not going to make it… but we wanted to prove everyone wrong,” Licari said.

So, six of the women officially embarked on the hours-long journey back to New York City in a minivan, after the rest of the group went home from elsewhere.

“I would say you have to accept the craziness of it all,” Licari said. “I’ve never been on a road trip with six people. I find it easier because we have more people to switch on and off. And there’s always at least one person awake to talk to.”

She added: “As soon as we got in the car, got our snacks, got our food out, it didn’t rain. It was a beautiful, sunny day. [on] Tuesday morning, so we were pretty confident in our decision. “

Along the way, Licari was sure to capture footage of unexpected travel delays and accidents. She put together the clips in a TikTok on February 23, which included the start of the road trip.

“We just made the most of it, shot some fun videos along the way and tried to have as much fun as possible in this 20-hour endeavor,” Licari said. “This is the only group I’ve traveled with for so many hours and so many people. We’ve known each other our entire lives, so it’s been really fun.”
