Defending champions Ivory Coast are among the top contenders for the trophy, thanks in part to their wealth of goalscoring talent, including Manchester United’s Amad Diallo.

The game is filled with elite forwards. Nigeria has Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, Egypt has Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmouche, Brian Mbemo is Cameroon’s biggest threat and Nicholas Jackson is one of several top attacking talents Senegal could use.

This makes the race for the Golden Boot, awarded to the top scorer in the entire Africa Cup of Nations, very exciting. The Sporting News will have a full update of the standings below between now and the finals on January 18.

Who won the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Golden Boot?

The winner of the 2023 African Cup of Nations Golden Boot Award is Emilio Nsu (Equatorial Guinea).

Although Nsu’s national team was eliminated in the round of 16, his five goals in four games are unmatched by the continent’s best strikers. It was an impressive result for a then 34-year-old player who had played at right-back for most of his career.
