Horseheads bowler wins state title at NYSPHSAA championships

Horseheads sophomore Cayden Bowman won the boys’ individual state championship in the individual event at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Bowling Championships at AMF Syracuse Lanes.

Bowman’s six-game score on Saturday, March 14, was 1,438. His scores were 234, 248, 255, 224, 243 and 234, with an average of 239.67.

North Babylon’s Nick Vuono finished second with 1,366 points.

Chenango Forks’ Landon Butenko finished second in Group 2 with 1,366 points. Weedsport’s Ethan Reitema won the championship with a total score of 1,381.

Waverly’s Derek Bowman scored 1,302 points in six games, including 289 games played, and was fifth in Division 2, one spot ahead of Owego Free Academy’s Connor Kotski (1,299 points).

In Friday’s Division II team competition, the Windsor women’s team finished second and the Sydney/Unatego men’s team finished fifth.

The Corning boys and Elmira girls each finished seventh in Sunday’s Division I team competition.
