Tony Schiavone has been wrestling (on and off) for decades, with stints in AEW, WCW, and even WWE. That means Schiavone is surrounded by well-regarded performers in the industry, but one New Japan Pro Wrestling star stands out among the longtime commentators, as he revealed on the What’s Going On podcast. With ROH star Dalton Castle as a guest, the conversation turned to NJPW star EVIL, with Schiavone asking his guest how EVIL compared to another wrestler in the promotion.

“Is he as tough as Tomohiro Ishii?” Schiavone asked. “[Ishii]To me, he is one of the strongest people I have ever met in my life. This guy can almost break a hamstring and still perform and still catch someone in the ring. It’s unbelievable. As tough as they come, and as professional as they come. “

Ishii has been a regular in AEW for the past few years. He even served as a member of The Conglomeration alongside Orange Cassidy, Mark Briscoe and others. Unfortunately, Ishii has suffered a series of injuries recently. In addition to the injury described by Schiavone, it was recently revealed that the man known as “The Stone Bull” will have to withdraw from the New Japan Cup due to a neck injury.

Following his comments about Ishii, Schiavone was surprised that AEW had yet to host a show in Japan, especially considering their working relationship with NJPW. The company’s closest event was last year’s Wrestle Dynasty event in Tokyo, which was co-sponsored by NJPW, AEW, CMLL, ROH and STARDOM.
