The Washington Wizards said in a statement Thursday that Anthony Davis has not been released due to a hand injury and newly acquired point guard Trae Young is also out with a knee injury.
Davis’ hand will be re-evaluated in two weeks, while Young will be out for at least another week.
Washington made a shock move at the NBA trade deadline earlier this month, acquiring Davis, while Young was acquired from Atlanta in January. Neither player has been active since joining the Wizards, but they have given fans some form of hope that have been hungry for a while.

Wizards fans have been deprived of a level of star power over the past few years, watching their team fail to qualify for the playoffs since the 2020-21 season. Bradley Beal was an All-Star that season and was named to the All-NBA Third Team. That year, Beal averaged 31.3 points per game, ranking second in the NBA in scoring behind Stephen Curry.
It was also the last time Washington fans had their own All-Star. So adding two All-Stars and All-NBA players within weeks of each other should be cause for celebration in the nation’s capital. If Davis and Young can play together for the foreseeable future, they could do some good things in Washington late in the season.

In the Eastern Conference standings, the Wizards currently have a record of 14 wins and 39 losses, which is the worst in the league. If nothing else, it could be fun to get Davis and Young on the floor, which is just one of the many things Washington has been lacking in some time.
Washington returns to action on Thursday against Indiana, the second-worst team in the Eastern Conference, at 7:00 p.m. ET at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
