2 hospitalized, including LMPD officer, after overnight downtown crash

A Louisville Metro police officer and another person were taken to the hospital after a crash early morning on Dec. 5 in downtown Louisville.

A statement from the department said the injured officer reported the incident at 3:19 a.m. following a report of a burglary. The officer’s cruiser, which had its lights and sirens activated, collided with another passenger vehicle at Intersection 2, LMPD said.ND Street and West Market Street.

Emergency Medical Services and the Louisville Fire Department responded to the incident. According to a statement from LMPD, two vehicles were damaged as well as a utility pole. Both drivers – the unnamed officer and another adult – were alert when taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

WAVE video shows the crash happening on the northwest corner of the intersection. The cruiser appeared to be severely damaged. A MetroSafe supervisor told the Courier Journal that the accident left traffic lights at the intersection out of service and crews were working to repair them as of about 8 a.m.
