Binance CEO Richard Teng announced on Tuesday at Binance Blockchain Week that businesswoman He Yi, who co-founded cryptocurrency trading giant Binance with former leader Changpeng Zhao, will serve as the company’s co-CEO.
He Yi, who once served as Binance’s marketing director, has been out of the spotlight until now. Unlike Zhou (commonly known as “CZ”) who often appears in public, He Yi chooses to operate in a low-key manner, focusing on strategic planning, brand promotion and business development.
Born in China in 1988, he is widely regarded as a strategic and innovative powerhouse that complements CZ’s leadership as Binance grew into the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange.
Her co-leadership role will also complement the steady track record of Mr. Teng, who guided the company through U.S. enforcement actions and ousted Nagasawa as CEO.
“Yi has been an integral part of Binance’s executive leadership team since its founding. Her innovative and user-centric approach has been instrumental in shaping the company’s vision, culture, and bottom-up business strategy,” said Binance CEO Richard Teng. “This appointment is a natural progression as she continues to lead the organization from strength to strength.”
“We remain committed to becoming the most trusted and regulated exchange in the world, always putting users first. Yi plays a key role in growing our community and driving product innovation as we work to reach 1 billion users. Together, we are committed to building Web3 infrastructure and promoting financial freedom, enabling people to participate in a more open and fair financial system.” Teng added.
“I am honored to be building alongside Richard, who has decades of experience in financial market regulation and was one of the early regulators of cryptocurrencies,” said He Yi. “Together, we bring diverse perspectives and the confidence to lead the industry’s future at this critical time as we remain user-centric, responsibly expand our global business and drive sustainable innovation.”
