NEW YORK DAILY NEWS | Gary Phillips: We’ve reached the eve of the Winter Meetings, and we know what the storyline is for the Yankees. New York hopes to add another outfielder, a starter and bolster their reliever depth, but no one knows how much Hal Steinbrenner is willing to spend to accomplish those goals. Regardless, this should add up to a pretty dramatic week. The Yankees will either offer and bring in a ton of talent, as they have done in recent meetings, or they can stay silent and risk sparking outrage.
New York Post | Greg Joyce: ($)Jasson DomÃnguez hasn’t turned 23 yet, but Joyce writes that he has reached a crossroads in his Yankees career. The talented outfielder is currently playing in the Dominican Republic, where he’s staying sharp and getting reps after seeing his playing time dwindle with the Yankees. As of now, Dominguez is likely New York’s starting left fielder, but a lot is still up in the air. Signing a player like Cody Bellinger or Kyle Tucker could move Dominguez into a fourth outfield role or into another organization entirely.

New York Daily News | Gary Phillips: The Yankees were once a go-to for Japan’s star players, but have now been surpassed by the Dodgers as the top destination for Japan’s top talent. Brian Cashman recently lamented the Yankees’ lack of success in luring players away from NPB, with Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Roki Sasaki and Shohei Ohtani all ending up in Los Angeles. After signing Hideki Matsui to a three-year contract before the 2003 season, the Yankees almost kept Japanese representation on the roster for nearly two decades, with Matsui giving way to Hiroki Kuroda and Ichiro Suzuki, who were eventually joined by Masahiro Tanaka. The Yankees have not had a Japanese player since Tanaka left in 2020. Can they finally bring in NPB star Tatsuya Imai this winter?
MLB Trade Rumors | Anthony Franco: The Red Sox made a trade Thursday night, acquiring young starter John Oviedo from the Pirates in exchange for two prospects, most notably Joe Stinkson “Code” Garcia. It’s an interesting trade, with Boston giving up their No. 6 pick, Garcia, for the long, pitching Oviedo, who has been at the helm for two seasons. Yankees fans should keep an eye on Boston, as the Yankees’ archrival has made two trades to bolster their pitching staff without touching most of their top prospects or signing any high-profile free agents.
