While he could win another MVP award or try for a Triple Crown, Judge is eyeing a different record, and he only needs 32 home runs to achieve that goal.
As MLB.com’s Sarah Langs writes, Judge is just 32 homers shy of 400 career home runs, and if he does that this season, he’ll reach the HR total faster than any player in MLB history.
Aaron Judge needs 32 HR to hit 400 in MLB career
“Judge enters the season with 368 career home runs, the most in MLB since his debut season in 2016,” Longs wrote. “Judge would need to hit 32 homers, which seems feasible for a player who hit 62 in ’22, 52 in ’17, 37 in just 106 games in 2023, 58 in 2024, and 53 last season.”

Hitting 32 home runs this season and 400 in his MLB career is no surprise. In fact, it might be more surprising if he didn’t hit 32 homers this season than if he did.
Entering 2026, he has played 1,145 career games in the major leagues. The player with the fewest 400 home runs in a career is Mark McGwire, who played 1,412 games.

Judge could easily become the fastest player to reach 400 home runs in his career, even if it takes him the entire 2026 MLB season.
400 home runs is a very noteworthy honor, and not only can Judge reach that mark this season, but it’s not surprising that he might be the fastest hitter in MLB history.
